"The Olive Wan" Tube Fly

"The Olive Wan"

Materials Used:

1" HMH Low Profile Tube
Olive 8/0 Thread
Yellow/Chartreuse Lagartun Flat French Mini Braid
Olive Saddle Hackle
Silver Small Oval Lagartun Varnished French Tinsel
DMC Gold Light Effects 5284 or e3821 found at http://www.dmc.com/
Chartreuse Schlappen
Olive Ringneck Rump Hackle
Dyed Chartreuse Fox Tail
Dyed Olive Fox Tail

Step by Step:

Step 1: Wrap 1" HMH Tube with Olive Thread.

Step 2: Tie in Yellow/Chartreuse Lagartun Flat French Mini Braid.

Step 3: Wrap Flat Braid to back of tube and back over itself to the tying thread.

Step 4: Tie off Flat Braid.

Step 5: Tie in Olive Saddle Hackle.

Step 6: Make five or six wraps of the hackle and tie off.

Step 7: Tie In Silver Small Oval Lagartun Varnished French Tinsel Counter Rib.

Step 8: Tie in another Olive Saddle Hackle Feather.

Step 9: Tie in and twist tightly the Gold DMC Light Effects 5284 or e3821.

Step 10: Wrap the Gold DMC to the front of the tube and tie off.

Step 11: Palmer Olive Saddle Hackle to front of tube and tie off.

Step 12: Palmer Counter Rib and tie off at front of tube.

Step 13: Tie in Chartreuse Schlappen Feather. Different lengths of Barbs can produce different outcomes for the fly. For this pattern I prefer a shorter barbed feather.

Step 14: Fold the Schlappen so barbs are heading in same direction. Hold barbs and make 3 to 4 wraps and tie in. Additional wraps can provide varying effects to the fly.

Step 15: Tie in Olive Ringneck Rump Hackle.

Step 16: Fold the Rump Hackle so barbs are heading in same direction. Hold barbs and make 3 to 4 wraps and tie in. Additional wraps can provide varying effects to the fly.

Step 17: Tie in the chartruese and olive fox fur. You can also add a bit of flash in the tube fly just add 5-7 strands of Krystal Flash or Angle Hair between the chartruese and olive fur.

Step 18: Go fishing. This has been a productive tube fly on Cattaraugus Creek and Salmon River during the fall season.
